OpenLOS

Open source

An open-source loan origination system

OpenLOS is a mortgage LOS whose code is public. For a broker shop, that changes who controls the software, where borrower data lives, and what happens if the project goes away.

You run your own copy

Each shop runs OpenLOS in its own hosting account or on its own server, with its own database and encryption key. There's no shared cloud holding every shop's borrowers.

Anyone can check it

Every line of code, every change, and every decision is public. Releases are signed, and Docker images carry build provenance, so you can confirm what you run is what's published.

Nobody can take it away

The license (AGPL-3.0) lets anyone run, change, and continue it. If the maintainer disappeared tomorrow, your copy keeps working and anyone can carry the code on.

No one pays for placement

The project takes no money from lenders or settlement service providers, and pricing never ranks loans by what they pay the broker.

What "open" doesn't mean

  • It doesn't mean unsupported. But support is the project's public issue tracker, not a phone line. A shop that wants a support contract can hire any developer to run it.
  • It doesn't mean it's finished. OpenLOS is alpha. Read what's missing on the comparison page before trusting it with real borrowers.
  • It doesn't mean your data is public. The code is public; your data never leaves your copy.

The license, briefly

OpenLOS is AGPL-3.0. A shop can use it and change it freely. If you offer a modified version to other people over a network, you share your changes under the same license. Using it inside your own shop, changed or not, asks nothing of you.

Its pricing standard, ORSF, is more permissive: the specification is CC BY 4.0 and its code is Apache-2.0, so any product, open or closed, can use it.
